It can take longer if:
You need to personally appear at the passport office at Schiphol to receive your passport or identity card. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If this is not possible, a signed letter of authority from the parent or guardian must be provided. Children over the age of 12 have to collect their passport or identity card themselves.
Hand in your current passport or identity card to collect your new document.
You need to collect your new travel document within 3 months. After three months, the passport or identity card will be destroyed.
You can choose to have your passport or identity card delivered to the address you are staying at in the Netherlands. You will need to be there in person at the time of the delivery to receive your document.
It can take longer than the usual 3 business days to have your document delivered.
In case of a lost or stolen travel document, we will need the number of the document. The organization that had issued this document will be able to provide us with this number. In such cases, the application will take longer than 3 business days.
You can apply for an emergency travel document at the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee’s office in Schiphol. More information can be found on the national government’s website.
An official police report is not required after the loss of your travel document to apply for a new one. However we do advise you to always report a lost or stolen passport or identity card to the police. This prevents identity fraud.

Do you travel a lot, also to countries that are in conflict? Or do you temporarily not have your passport available due to a visa application? Then you can apply for a second passport.
What do you need for the application of a second passport?
You complete the checklist on the website Netherlands worldwide, after which you will receive an overview of the documents that you have to bring to your appointment
Your first passport must be valid for another 6 months
You must prove that you need the second passport. This should show that you travel regularly or visit conflicting countries. For example: airline tickets, hotel reservations, flight schedules, proof of visa application, stamps in your current passport or invitations from foreign companies.
Are you a Dutch citizen without a permanent place of residence or stay and do you want to apply for a travel document? You must prove that you have the Dutch nationality (still). You fill in a question form for this. In addition, you need documents that prove that you were in the Netherlands or abroad from the date of your deregistration from the Basic Registration Persons (BRP) until the date of your application. You prove this with:
Statements from social welfare agencies
Rental or purchase contract
Bank statements with debit card payments
Statements by social workers

You pay the fees when you are at the appointment to apply for your travel document. The passport office in Schiphol only accepts debit or credit cards as method of payment. Visa Electron and American Express credit cards are not accepted at the Amsterdam municipal desk.
